5 Resources Every New Milspouse Should Know About

In light of National Military Appreciation month, did you know there are tons of websites dedicated just to military spouses? Not until recently did I start doing research and was overwhelmed with the sites that were out there to support spouses like us who travel, move, support our families, work, and do it all over again. Finding reliable information is not the easiest, especially if you don’t live on an installation or have many friends who are military spouses. Not only are these resources for you to find information, but they’re a community of others living lives just like you and just like our network here.

Here are five resources that can help you:

1. Jo’My Gosh

This website focuses on helping military spouses deal with deployment, find military discounts, create care packages, strengthen their relationships, and live military life. Being a new military spouse, this would be a great resource for you to find information on how to handle the life you’re living. Plus, it’s written by a military spouse like you, so it’s easy to relate to.

2. Military One Source

This website has tons of great resources. Some of the important pieces on this site were spouse education and career opportunities. These are huge because there are so many programs out there that help military spouses wherever they move.

3. USAA

USAA is a company that provides banking, mortgages, loans, auto insurance, and more for military families. They make everything extremely easy for families in the military. If there’s ever a time when the government does a shutdown or doesn’t pay military families, they will help make up that difference.

4. The Breastfeeding Shop

You’ll find all the breastfeeding accessories you could need here. The Breastfeeding Shop is the number one preferred provider for TRICARE breast pumps and accessories. You can get a prescription from your provider, submit to the website, and receive all your supplies delivered to your door, all covered by insurance. They stock some of the best breast pumps out there! You can also download their free app for access to the website and blog, complete with information for breastfeeding success and to help you raise your new baby.

5. Discounts for Military Spouses

This website talks about 10 different military spouse discounts that companies have in store for you. There are a ton more, but one category this site points out that many spouses might not realize is the clothing discounts offered at stores like Old Navy, Banana Republic, New York and Company, Rack Room Shoes, and Payless.

As a military spouse, know that you aren’t alone and there are tons of sites and resources out there to help you in whatever path you’re looking to take. We’re lucky that it’s a time when we can Google the resource we’re looking for, but it’s always nice to have a list of trustworthy places as your go-to. While trying to get your foot in the door of a new location, dealing with children, or getting your new lives set up, these resources are great for finding the information you need.

Army Wife Network is blessed with many military spouses who share their journey through writing in our Experience blog category. As we PCS in our military journey, bloggers too sometimes move on. Their content and contributions are still valued and resourceful. Those posts are reassigned under "Retired Bloggers" in order to allow them to remain available as content for our AWN fans.
