There’s a couple local jewelry and knick knack shops there too, so bring some money for trinkets and such.”

THOUGHTS FROM SPOUSES:

“This post is a drive from a lot of the big city happenings, but it is very much a military community, lots of support for the soldiers, celebrations and very friendly community.  Another piece of valuable information, the military training graduations on post are Thursday and Fridays (I believe), so the post and PX are very crowded these days.  Also it is a training post so on Sunday’s there is usually an abundance of recruits in there doing their shopping, so if you can avoid that day would be best.  Also the summer is the best time at Fort Leonard Wood there are 2 outdoor pools they were opened up free to ID holders last year, a putt-putt and go cart track that opens up in the summer.”

                                                                                       Spouse, Jennifer Maniscalco

“FLW is really a sportsman/outdoors paradise with tons of on post fishing, hiking and yes…even hunting.  For shoppers, the drive to any of the major shopping centers isn’t bad at all.  The post is located smack in the middle of a section of Mark Twain National Forest.  Be sure to check out the post FB page as well as The Guidon (post paper) to see what’s happening on this very active Post!”
