Field Problem: Mental Health Care for Soldiers

Dear, Field Problems:

My service member has been experiencing short-term memory issues in conjunction with anxiety. These can be symptoms of TBI, PTSD, several mental health concerns, or sometimes side effects of medications. How does the service member find help, especially when he or she is concerned that it might affect their career?

Field Problem: Preparing for a Parent to Leave

Dear, Field Problems:

My husband is leaving for basic in a few weeks. Between basic and AIT, he will be gone about eight months. We have a 2-year-old and a 15-month-old. I am wanting some advice on how to prepare and make the separation easier on my oldest. I know this isn’t a deployment by any stretch of the imagination, but communication will be limited. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Field Problem: Continuing Health Care Benefits

Dear, Field Problems:

I’m living in Florida and my husband is in Germany. He’s getting out of the Army next year. With all of the insurance laws and changes, does the Army offer any temporary insurance plans? We have a child on the way, and I want to make sure that she’s covered.

Field Problem: Pre-Deployment Anxiety

Dear, Field Problems:

I recently found out my husband will be deploying soon. We have three children, and I’m really scared about him going. I have nightmares and crying spells, and though we’ve talked about what I would do if something were to happen, it doesn’t seem to help me feel better. How do I deal with these feelings? I’m a wreck already, and he doesn’t even leave for months. Can you help?
