From what I've learned (which isn't much so far!), the vFRG site is such a bear because it's on a DoD server and, therefore, 100% secure. The trouble I'm having with it so far is that my husband can't seem to approve my AKO accounts or verify that he's my sponsor, so I've not been able to access my unit's vFRG page.
vFRG - or virtual Family Readiness Group for the lady who asked - can be a great way for families who might not want to attend FRG meetings to stay in touch with what is going on in a unit. For those wives and families who love on post while their husbands are home, but who then go home when/if he gets deployed, a vFRG can also be a good way for them to stay up to date with official unit information aside from phone calls from Key Callers. Because the vFRG site is 100% secure, information that can't be posted on Twitter or Facebook, etc. can be posted on the vFRG site.
Yeah, it's basic, doesn't really look good, and probably has server issues. However, I think that if FRGs start building their sites, we might be able to push the higher-ups to devote a little bit more time to vFRG sites. Might be something to bring up when your post starts asking for issues to be presented for the Army Family Action Plan meetings.
