MommyStrong,

It is something we brought up to the Mobilization and Deployment section of ACS at Hood. It's something they would like to implement. Each school has to want to be on board and sadly many schools aren't about doing anything extra. The first year of the club, myself and my friend who helped me start this club paid for everything out of our own pocket. The next year after proving what an asset the program was to the school, they helped fund our annual banquet. It's in it's 3rd year and going strong.

I would personally love to see a group like this in any school dealing with deployed parents.

i was at a function yesterday chit-chatting with one of the ladies and she was telling how she had 25 yrs in and is getting ready to retire from the military. i asked her what her plans were after the military and she said she had no plans yet. i suggested to her that she start a club like yours' army wife. so, maybe we can get something going at ft. carson too. thanks for sharing the great idea!

I found this link. I was wanting to do the Love Dare while my husband is deployed so that we can strengthen our marriage. And I was looking up some books the other day and stumbled upon this website.

http://excellentorpraiseworthy.org/40-days-of-the-love-dare/

It's the Love Dare broken down into terms of a Deployment. Of course, I could've figured out the difference between the book and the deployment on my own, but a lot of the information and similarities between the deployment and the book I wouldn't have come up with on my own. It's a great source of guidance for me and so hopefully other spouses can benefit from it as well.

When my husband was home before he deployed and he would tell me when him and his guys would have to go out in the field for a while, and I would stay up most of the night, 6 months preggo with a 2yr old to care for in the morning, and bake enough cookies for all of them to enjoy when they leave on the bus. I also make it a priority to invite my husbands soldiers to a homecooked meal whether it be just a weeknight with chili or Thanksgiving or a Superbowl party. I'm only 23 but one of the guys calls me "mom" and all the other guys look forward to seeing my husband when they board their buses for training because they know he has cookies with him. I make it a priority to be as involved in the FRG I can be and since my husband deployed last Spring I've worked up to becoming the Treasurer and a Key Caller. I am constantly on my phone with other wives who I don't look at or treat like other wives, but who are my friends and sisters as well. I get to help them with how to fill out paperwork when it asks for the husbands unit or just a general ear for them to vent to because they haven't heard from their husband. I love being able to make a difference in their deployment no matter what it is. I love them all as my own family and try to do whatever is in my means to make their life easier whether it be paying outta pocket to make our company's gift stockings to the soldiers a little thicker or running to the store when another wife needs ginger-ale and she has 3 little girls at home and is to sick to do so herself. I have aspirations to be an actual FRG Leader someday and can't wait to see how big of a difference I can make.
