Company-sized care packages

Postby lorenabeth » Mon Dec 21, 2009 12:33 pm

I am always challenging myself to send something unique and different during deployments in care packages for my husband; I'm sure this is a common challenge for many other Army wives.
My husband has been on 5 deployments since I've known him. I started out by creating fun packages on special occasions like Birthday-in-a-box, and Super-Bowl-party-in-a-box. I then moved to the 12 days of Christmas in packages/letters. I always felt a yearning desire to do something for ALL of the soldiers. As I knew my soldier was deemed 'spoiled', but what about the others?
So the first deployment after we were married, number 4 for him, I decided to create a little something for every soldier.
I decided in order to be practical, and cost efficient, for 250+ gifts, I would make them Soldier Survival Kits.
I had made one on a larger scale for my husband a few deployments back, and the hottest item was the "Instant Water"- and empty bottle that said, "Just add water and shake".

So I went shopping for the ingredients to this survival kit.

Here's what it included:
Just for you...
A Lifesaver – to remind you that you are one.
Gum - to help your unit stick together
A Match- to light your fire when you feel burned out.
A Tootsie roll - to remind you to Roll with the punches.
A toothpick - to remind you to stay sharp
Smarties - to help you on days you don't feel so smart.
A starburst - to give you a burst of energy when you need it most.
A cotton pad - to cushion the rough roads.
Confetti - to remind you to relax when you can.
A button – to remind you of all the support and love that we have for you. *
Thank you for your service! I am proud of all of you. Come home soon! ~Lauren E. Smith

*The buttons said "I am Loved" They came from a promotion that Helzberg Diamonds hosts yearly around Valentine's Day.

This project empowered me to do several more like it in the future deployments. I am inspired by sending a smile to brighten just one person's day...
As we near our next deployment, I am gathering new ideas from networking here to add to my list of projects.
