Reasons for Milspouse Pride: Part 1

Welcome to AWN’s Monthly Recon Rendezvous link-up! We’re so glad you are here. As the name implies, Recon Rendezvous is a place of community and connection. It’s an opportunity to explore and learn about our fellow military supporters’ lives, victories, trials, and experiences.

Each month, we “rendezvous” here to provide information, resources, and encouragement. So, do some “reconnaissance,” link up, swing by your “neighbor,” and leave a comment.

I have a confession to make.

Sometimes, in the day-to-day shenanigans that is military spouse life, I forget about the pride that comes with this calling.

And I don’t mean pride like, “Look at me, I’m so awesome” pride; more like, “Wow. My spouse is the bomb dot com. This life can be hard, but I sure am proud of what my service members is doing for our country/world/family.”

Maybe you find yourself sometimes forgetting the pride part of this milspouse ride.

So, I’ve engaged one of our most powerful resources—our Army Wife Network followers—to help me compile a list of “Reasons for Milspouse Pride.”

I asked our faithful followers to complete this sentence:

I’m a proud military spouse when…

And boy-oh-boy, did they deliver! I don’t know why I was so surprised. Our milspouse community also rocked my world when we compiled our other lists of Motivational Milspouse Mottos Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3, as well as Ways You Might Be a Milspouse: Part 1 and Part 2.

Check out our first installment of these incredibly moving and genuine ways that we are proud to be military spouses:

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when the local non-military town elementary school goes bananas for a little girl whose daddy just came home! Bring on the tears and the pride in what our families do and go through. Awesome shout out to this elementary school for making homecoming day a most special day for this little third grader.” — Tiffany B.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse every time I hear our National Anthem. I have to fight to hold back tears of pride.” — Tracy M.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when I see him making his brothers- and sisters-in-arms laugh when it’d be easier to let life get the best of them.” — Jennifer W.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when I see my husband lacing up his boots in the early morning hours. I’m proud to be a military spouse the numerous times he’s stepped off the aircraft after a TDY or deployment and the only thing that he wants in the whole world and the only thought that keeps circling his mind is to find his family and give them a great big grateful-to-be-alive-and-home hug. I’m proud to be a military spouse all the time. I’m proud at events where they honor our armed forces as well as during stressful current events, because although it knots my stomach and I worry about my husband, I’m honored to give the brave men and women that are fighting for our country, our freedom, and our happiness the praise, recognition, and appreciation they deserve. I’m proud to be a milspouse when my husband receives an award or recognition for his tireless efforts. I’m proud to be a military spouse on holidays, especially Veterans Day. I’m also a military sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend. The military lifestyle is my life, and though it can be challenging, I’m so proud of all of it. ” — Madison M.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when I see my husband standing at attention. I cannot help but feel so proud that he has chosen to serve his country.” — Lesley W.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when my husband gets recognized for something at work and he looks at me and says something like, ‘Without the endless support of my wife, I would not be here today.’ Knowing that everything I do, no matter how big or small, helps him tremendously in his career gives me pride.” — Jennifer R.

“I’m a proud military spouse when I see my husband silently shed a tear when he hears Taps played. I know he’s thinking about his best friend and many others who did not return.” — Shannon D.

“I’m proud to be a military spouse when, no matter where I go, on base or off, and I meet another military spouse, there’s a ‘moment.’ Hard to explain really… Sometimes it’s a smile, sometimes it’s a head nod, sometimes it’s a hug, but it’s a look that says ‘I get it, I’m with you’ without actually saying a word. It’s amazing really, to be instantly connected to someone you might have just met. And in that moment, I feel a part of something bigger.” — Jennifer M.

What great reasons to be proud to be a milspouse 🙂 (and I learned a new word today ;)). I’m grateful for everyone who serves our country and for those who serve those who serve. May God bless and protect each of you and the Holy Spirit comfort you in your service and calling.

Pride is not always a bad thing. Having pride in being a Military Spouse, pride in a job well done, pride of our children growing up and even pride that we have overcome a habit or made a change for the better are just a few reasons to be proud. Now my mother always told me that the wrong kind of pride – – the boastful kind “comes before a fall.”
