(Even More) Motivational Milspouse Mottos

Welcome to AWN’s Monthly Recon Rendezvous link-up! We’re so glad you are here. As the name implies, Recon Rendezvous is a place of community and connection. It’s an opportunity to explore and learn about our fellow military supporters’ lives, victories, trials, and experiences.

Each month, we “rendezvous” here to provide information, resources, and encouragement. So do some “reconnaissance,” link up, swing by your “neighbor” and leave a comment.

I love happy endings. And today, we end our Motivational Milspouse Mottos series. Welcome to part three!

If you have just popped by, never fear. You can check out Part 1 and Part 2, then join us right back here. We will wait for you.

And now, drumroll please as we wrap things up with these final motivational milspouse motto moments:

1. At the end of the day, it’s all about the relationships.

Yes, yes, all the things yes! As much as I have loved (and not loved) some of our duty stations, deployments, or assignments, the relationships are what have helped me through it. This motto was submitted by an old friend, who also said this: “Treat each other like ATMs—make more deposits than withdrawals.”

2. You’ve got this.

Three short words. Massive amounts of power packed in there. Sometimes, when we’re on our last ounce of everything positive, we have to take our multivitamin, slide into bed at 9 p.m., and whisper “Tomorrow’s another day. We’ve got this.”

3. The people always make up the difference!

This motto is very similar to our first one listed today, but clearly relationships will make/break our experience. Chaplain Patricia Nichols submitted this motto, and she said it is best used when you find yourself in a desert, in a swamp, or on a tundra with no Target or Walgreens nearby. As milspouses, that kind of thing can happen, whether literally or figuratively, co find good people. They will make the difference.

4. Sometimes victory is putting on pants and keeping the tiny humans alive.

Look, friends. I am a doer and achiever. I like to accomplish stuff. But sometimes in my milspouse life, especially when my service member is gone, I need to adjust my standards, engage my sense of humor, and embrace what success might look like. Sure, some days victory will be doing all the things, topped off with a healthy supper and a kick-booty workout. Other days, we feel like champs because we got dressed (and yes, yoga pants totally count) and the kids are still breathing at the end of the day.

5. Work smarter. Not harder.

This motto isn’t just applicable to milspouse life, but it sure is handy. Sometimes, we need to take a quick timeout and adjust our strategy. Occasionally, I can be kind of impulsive and oftentimes that finds me working harder and not-so-much on the smarter side. Amazing what a quick breather and engaging outside resources can do for our milspouse mission.

6. Humans win.

A unique motto that I haven’t heard before, but I like this one. It is to be used whenever a system or process or mechanical item seems to be set against us. Which, knowing the military paperwork/communication system, is a very real experience. But in the end, the humans will always win. Something important to keep in mind!

7. It’s not the amount of time you are together but the quality that makes a milspouse marriage work.

Now, this is a powerful milspouse motto. Most of us probably feel like we see our partner much less than we would like to, and it’s easy to buy into the lie that because our quantity of time isn’t a large amount, the quality will automatically suffer. But that’s not true. We might have to work a little bit harder to make the time we do have count, but that quality can trump quantity any day.

8. AMERICA!

When in doubt, just yell/whisper/think AMERICA for all milspouse tasks. And success will be yours.

Well friends, that’s it for our miniseries. Which motto is your favorite? Or do you have one that beats them all? We always love to hear from you. Chime in and leave a comment below.
