Winter Fashion Made For You

Let’s go shopping! The fashion train is taking us back to the seventies this winter season—or at least that’s what it feels like (it could also be my Good Girls Revolt binge-watching talking.) If you’re looking to expand on your winter fashion, I’ve got some advice for you.

Here are some trends to watch for:

1. Animal print

Let’s start with animal print. It’ll be everywhere and on everything—shoes, shirts, dresses, coats, and handbags. There’s no escaping the jungle in 2019.

Leopard is king, and it’s adorned the bodies of stylish women for years. Now it’s time to make room in your closet. It’s time for you to embrace and enjoy the everyday and every girl wardrobe staple.

Winter fashion this season is all about the animal prints.
Fashion doesn’t have to be expensive—holiday sales are the perfect time to purchase quality pieces at a steal. I bought these for half off at J. Crew Outlet.

You can toss on a pair of leopard flats or a skinny belt for a simple spouses’ luncheon—or you can pair a leopard blouse with a blazer for a festive spouses’ club meeting. “Not a fan of leopard,” you say? No problem—we live in an equal opportunity animal kingdom: snake, croc, python, tiger, zebra, you name it and they’ll have it in a store near you.

2. Leather

Let’s talk leather… and I’m not talking about your trusty 10-year-old moto jacket. Start thinking grown up, sophisticated, and chic. Not only is it a street style favorite, but it’s quickly becoming mine, too.

Leather dresses are hot this season and I can’t help but wonder… “Why haven’t they been a staple in the years past?”

Don't forgo all the cool ways to use leather in your winter fashion and accessories.
The perfect way to ease into a new trend is by starting off small. Front vegan leather (back ponte fabric) leggings available at Stella & Dot.

Don’t limit yourself to your reliable jacket—try a skirt, trousers, or ease into a leather pair of leggings. There is cool factor on these pieces, and let me tell you, it’s through the roof. Forget velvet and silk—you deserve the best!

3. Shades of brown

No surprise with the color fashion trend of the season—it has seamlessly evolved from terra cotta swimsuits and chocolate polka dot dresses to the warm and inviting hues of brown.

Pick your favorite shade—coffee, mocha, chestnut, walnut, tawny, or pecan—the choices are endless and wardrobe possibilities infinite. Brown is becoming the new go-to color or, dare I say, black. Pair this color palette with the on-trend check print and you’re reliving your 1970s dream.

How beautiful are these brown winter fashion colors?
Everyone can shine in a shade of brown—mine is “Burnished Ginger.” Dress: Old Navy, Shoes: Target, Accessories: Stella & Dot

There will be no escaping this fashion trend, but would you even want to? It’s an intriguing and delightful alternative to the sharp and chic black—perfect for everyday coffee with friends, an FRG meeting, even dinner with your significant other.

4. Silver

As you dance into the holiday season make sure you remember to sparkle…in silver.

Your winter fashion can sparkle a little bit more with silver.
Fashion is all in the details. Both shoes are from Target.

While a full silver ensemble can be very dominant and possibly steal the thunder. Wearing a silver skirt, metallic top, or silver accessories can be just the right amount of shine. Even shoes pack a holiday sassy punch! Add a little bling to your hair, ears, or neckline, and you’ll be set for the unit holiday party.

Or try one of these…

A few more looks you will be observing this winter season and are worth an honorable mention: tweed, capes, and as I briefly mentioned above, glen plaid (a check print.)

Have a little fun with your preppy glen plaid—make it your own style! Dress: H&M, Accessories: Stella & Dot

The best part—all of these trends can be tailored to your personal style. They are great transitional pieces and very versatile, easily taking you from one unit function to another.

Happy styling!
