Be Thankful For Your Military Family

I always knew that having a military family was important, but holy cow, I’ve never been more thankful for mine.

Sure, I was thankful for my neighbors who let me sit in their house for hours on a holiday morning when I locked myself out and my husband was away training.

I was thankful for the help in dropping off and picking up cars at the mechanic, borrowing sheets and pillows during a PCS, friendly faces to eat dinner with on the many nights I spent alone.

I was thankful for listening ears during trying times and having people to help celebrate the joyous ones. You guys get it. I’m extremely thankful for my family away from family.

Then I had twin babies four months after arriving at a new duty station. And boy, did my new military family step up.

While we spent our weekend in the hospital, friends were in and out of our house caring for our dog, doing our dishes, and stocking our fridge.

They made deliveries of food, coffee, toiletries, and flowers to my hospital bedside.

They sat with me during labor and were there immediately following delivery.

They continued to check on us day in and day out while I navigated my new life as a mom of two baby girls.

They offered to walk my dog, deliver hot dinners to my door, assist me with errands and appointments, and sit on my couch and be an extra set of hands.

I know I’m not the first military spouse this has ever happened to, and I know I won’t be the last. I know they’ve all probably been extremely grateful for this same kind of help.

But man, has my heart been flooded with appreciation for these people.

While some I’ve known for a few years, most I met only a few months prior.

And they stepped up, guys.

Even though I expected nothing less from these wonderful friends, I still couldn’t be more thankful for the way they helped a new friend in need.

They were our extra sets of hands, our support system, and most importantly, our family when our own family could not be there during a new and exciting time in our lives.

To our forever growing military family, please know how thankful we are to have you. During the trying, exciting, scary, new, and adventurous times in our lives.

We appreciate you.

Army Wife Network is blessed with many military spouses who share their journey through writing in our Experience blog category. As we PCS in our military journey, bloggers too sometimes move on. Their content and contributions are still valued and resourceful. Those posts are reassigned under "Retired Bloggers" in order to allow them to remain available as content for our AWN fans.
