Meet Tiffany

Girl meets boy at a Basic Training Family Day. Boy starts conversation with girl. Girl writes letter to boy. Boy and girl get married two years later and live happily ever after.

The end.

Wait! I forgot to enter in the part that boy was still in the military and curveballs are a staple of everyday life. Twelve years, five homes, 10 deployments, two kids, and a dog later, we may not be Cinderella’s version of happily ever after but we sure do love the journey we’re on.

To fill in a few details in between, let me introduce myself.

My name is Tiffany, and I was born and raised a midwestern girl in the heartland of southern Ohio. Sure, I had some extended family that served in the military, but otherwise, I was completely oblivious to this life when I married my husband, and less than 18 hours after I said “I do” was whisked away to sunny Savannah, Georgia, and completely indoctrinated into the Special Operations community.

I learned quickly that to thrive in this military spouse life, it was sink or swim, and I had every intention of swimming. Not just swimming, but swimming in marathon-style glory. Any of you spouses who’ve been married for a minute know this life can be the most beautiful, exhausting marathon filled with lots of ups and downs and so much in between.

I graduated from Miami University in 2002 with a degree in Public Relations with a strong leaning toward event planning and promotions. I almost had a minor in Spanish but got a wicked case of “senior-itis” my final year and bailed. After graduating, I worked at a senior center in Ohio, but not long after that, I met my (eventual) husband at his Basic Training Family Day when I traveled down to watch my cousin graduate from the same company of incoming privates.

Through a series of events I can only explain as God-driven, we married in 2005. After Savannah, we moved to Fort Benning for a couple years, then experienced the blistering cold and breath-taking beauty of Fort Drum in upstate New York. We currently live in the mountains of North Georgia and in a few short months will experience our first OCONUS to Italy.

Like I said, Ben and I have two children, Connor and Alaina, and a four-legged 11-year-old fur baby, Dakota. Our kids are involved in extracurricular activities, so it keeps us on our toes and mighty busy.

I love reading anything I can get my hands on, particularly historical fiction. I run Disney marathons solely for the costume during the race and the bling after. I get loud with Sunday football when my Bengals are playing and have a tendency to be ultra-competitive.

I love to color-code everything and live by lists. I have a passion for teaching and think God has placed a new calling in my path as I now work at the local school district.

I believe that being invited on as an experience contributor with Army Wife Network is also a blessing and am so excited to share some of my good, bad, and ugly with you.

Army Wife Network is blessed with many military spouses who share their journey through writing in our Experience blog category. As we PCS in our military journey, bloggers too sometimes move on. Their content and contributions are still valued and resourceful. Those posts are reassigned under "Retired Bloggers" in order to allow them to remain available as content for our AWN fans.
