HOUSING

Housing is managed by USAG Humphreys Housing Office. Like many overseas locations, service members and their families who are moving to an OCONUS duty station will begin their housing search at the installation housing office. Specific paperwork is often required for seeking off-post housing options.

“Ship a lot of stuff ahead of time on your own dime. HHG and unaccompanied baggage can take 1-2 months. Do not ship your brand new car over here—it will get ruined. You can buy junkers for less than $1,000 for the duration of the tour.” – Rose M.

Spouse Testimonials

Camp Humphreys is growing and becoming bigger and better. Command Sponsorship still isn’t a guarantee, and you can always come over NCS. NCS families do not get a spot in the schools for their children and need special permission to have a car. A/C and heat are expensive here, but you get a lot of money for utilities. Use the money for the utilities and you won’t have to freeze or overheat.”  – Rose M.

“Camp Humphreys is a great post with lots of activities for both single and unaccompanied soldiers as well as families. In my opinion, this is very helpful since we are so far away from the ‘comforts of home.’ Being stationed at Humphreys is an amazing opportunity, and I am grateful that I have been able to share it with my family.” – Christa G.

“There will be times when you hate it all: hate Korea, hate the distance, hate the Army, whatever. When you get into that state, understand that it will pass. It’s like anything else in life… if you sit and wait for stuff to happen to you, you become a spectator. Become a player in the game.” – Corrie B.

Hello Ladies, I do hope someone here will help. I’ve been offered a contract position at Camp Humphreys but don’t have a sponsor – yet. Please, I’m most concerned about bringing my 20 pound dog; I’d hate to re-home him but need to know if bringing him is a wise choice. I’m not sure I can use the Veterinary services on post as I’m not active duty and even if I could, I understand services are limited. Are there good Veterinarians to provide care? What is the dog culture like? Pet sitting services or perhaps neighbors who would share taking care of my pet and I theirs if/when needed?

Hi, Danell— Due to the complexity of your question, it is probably best to ask the source. USAG Humphreys has a Facebook page for the Veterinary Treatment Facility that you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/USAG-Humphreys-Veterinary-Treatment-Facility-1655699604726268/. You can message them directly and await a response. You will find some answers to your questions with the brochure here: https://www.2id.korea.army.mil/soldiers/newcomers/pdf/Humphreys-Brochure-updated30July2018.pdf. This brochure will tell you what services are offered as well as the paperwork necessary to bring your pet both to and from South Korea. If you are a DoD contractor or civilian, you can have your pet seen on post on a space available basis. Appointments must be made during the week you want the appointment to be, rather than scheduling out in advance. The VTF should be able to provide you with a list of off-post vets, which they recommend having for emergencies and even routine care, as the VTF is only open three days a week. You can find the health certificate paperwork for your pet here: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/by-country/pettravel-korea. If you are able to use an on-installation vet at your current location, it streamlines the process. If not, know you will still be able to complete the paperwork, but it may require researching a USDA certified vet and/or traveling to your local state capital in order to receive the necessary stamps. We hope this helps so you can keep your furry friend with you!
